George Town of Penang Island is "European expats' top 10 preferred Asian locations" where Europeans prefer to work and live in, according to an international location ratings survey.
George Town
was ranked 10th in the annual Location Ratings Survey by ECA International and is said to be one of the handful of locations in Asia which offered a good standard of living.
George Town was also
ranked ninth in Asia for Asians to live in and
in the world's ranking of the survey which rates living standards in more than 400 locations globally, according to categories including climate, air quality, health services, housing and utilities, isolation, social network and leisure facilities, infrastructure, personal safety and political tensions.
Penang is currently
ranked at No.4 in tourists arrivals in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur, Pahang and Sabah.
Penang Island was recently honored as
one of the top Asian islands in Travel + Leisure's 2008 World's Best Awards.
Penang has been chosen as
No.2 by readers recommendation in the New York Times “Best Places to Go in 2009”.
In addition, the number of hotel guests in 2008 by Malaysia tourists statistics was 68.8mil compared to 61.6mil in 2007. Which goes to show that with an increase of 11.7% in Malaysia tourist arrival, Penang has achieved higher in percentage of tourist arrivals compared to the whole of Malaysia.
