Four wooden houses and two guest houses (Shalini’s Guest House and Ali's Guest House) were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Bayu Senja in Batu Ferringhi of Penang Island at around 11.40am 25 December 2010.
Quick action by the Fire and Rescue Department managed to prevent the fire from spreading to more than 10 houses nearby.
Two people suffered minor injuries while helping to put out the blaze.
They were given first aid by St John Ambulance volunteers.
The village is located behind the Batu Ferringhi mosque and opposite Park Royal Hotel.
It is learnt that a wooden house and a guest house were razed to the ground while the remaining ones were badly damaged.
Some of the foreigners who stayed in the guest houses had gone to the beach about 100m away before the incident.
