Penang has awarded CRAG HOTEL Restoration, Refurbishment, Redevelopment and Management Project to Sri Nisuh Sdn. Bhd.

The Crag Hotel in Penang Hill of Penang Island will be renamed as Amancrag Resort after the restoration, refurbishment, redevelopment in future. The Penang State Executives Councillor’s Meeting on April 11, 2011 decided to award this project to Sri Nisuh Sdn. Bhd. (SNSB).

Here is the statement by penang Chief minister regarding the Request For Proposal (RFP) for the CRAG HOTEL Restoration, Refurbishment, Redevelopment and Management Project.

The Crag Hotel is situated on Penang Hill with an elevation of 833 meters (2723 ft) and is the oldest hill station in Malaysia. The Crag Hotel sits on Lot 100, Mukim 17, Bukit Bendera (Penang Hill), North East District, George Town, Penang covers an area of 7.681 acres of land comprising a ‘village of 22 bungalows’ grouped around or close to the central building where the dining and sitting rooms are located. Crag Hotel was the first hotel on Penang Hill.

In line with the State Government’s vision to create a unique and prestigious tourism product that will raise Penang’s profile internationally and transform Penang Hill as a destination for high-value tourists, an RFP for the Restoration, Refurbishment, Redevelopment and Management of Crag Hotel at Lot 100, Mukim 17, Bukit Bendera (Penang Hill), North East District, George Town, Penang, Malaysia was issued on June 1, 2010 and was closed on August 30, 2010. Two proposals were received but rejected due to failure to meet the RFP requirements. Hence, a second RFP was reissued on November 15, 2010 and was closed on February 15, 2011. Another two companies participated in this RFP. The State Executives Councillor’s Meeting on April 11, 2011 decided to award this project to Sri Nisuh Sdn. Bhd. (SNSB).

SNSB will invest a minimum of USD 12 million (RM36,901,200.00) to finance the project to be completed within 30 to 36 months. The company will be granted a period of 30+30+30 years under terms and conditions to be mutually agreed. The management and marketing of the hotel will be carried out by Amanresorts International Pte. Ltd., a world class and renowned hotelier. Crag Hotel will be renamed as Amancrag Resort.

The redevelopment concept will consist of 20 individuals suite/villas with a deck and dining room (Level 1), bedroom, living room, balcony and massage room (Level 2). The main building of Hotel Crag will be maintained and used as a restaurant and lounge bar with the existing pulley system as heritage value. Other facilities include world class health and spa facilities; lobby / reception; and arrival hall, jeep and buggy services. Additional value will be the artificial waterfall at the entrance or at infinity pool area. Concierge Station will be located at Upper Tunnel Station and landscaping will be carried out to beautify the hotel area. Development will be on the existing footprint and Green Building Index Technology will be incorporated.

The redevelopment of Crag Hotel will also give benefits to Penangities in term of employment, engagement of local contractors, suppliers as well as monetary returns to the State Government.
